How American League teams faired against the competition in 2013
Every team in the American League is listed in the left column.
The Winning Teams column represents each clubs winning % versus clubs that had at least a .500 winning % in 2013. These teams consist of: Boston, Toronto, Tampa Bay, Cleveland, Detroit, Chicago, and Texas.
Losing Teams signifies each clubs winning % versus clubs with losing records this past season. These include: Baltimore, New York, Minnesota, Kansas City, Seattle, Oakland, and Anaheim.
Difference is just that, the difference between the two previous columns. It is meant to indicate the disparity between each clubs record versus losing and winning teams.
Some thoughts:
-- 3 teams had a winning % better than .500 vs winning teams: Boston, Cleveland, Tampa Bay.
-- Boston kicked it up a notch when facing winning teams. They were significantly better against winning teams.
-- Texas and Toronto beat up on the losing teams and struggled to hold their own vs winning teams (Texas moreso than Toronto). This appears to be bad news as they head into the playoffs. They will face Boston and Cleveland; the two teams with the highest winning % vs winning teams in 2013.
Each column represents every clubs record versus the respective divisions: Al East, AL Cental, AL West.
Some thoughts:
-- Last year, 12 out of 14 teams had their best winning % vs the West. This was due in large part to the West being home to the 2 worst teams in the league. This year, some of the action switched to the Central as it was now home to the 2 worst teams in the league. 6 teams had their best records vs the Central compared to 8 against the West.
-- Every team had its worst record vs the AL East except for MIN and ANA.
-- For the 2nd straight season, Cleveland had the highest winning % (.716) versus its own division among all of the teams.
-- Texas, even though they are a very good ballclub, appears to be a byproduct of a weak division. Again, not good news heading into the playoffs.
-- For the second straight year Alan's Angels have assembled the most consistent record among the divisions in the league. They don't care...they will lose to anyone. Sorry, Alan I couldn't resist. You are much improved over last year, keep it up.
