How National League teams faired against the competition in 2013
Every team in the National League is listed in the left column.
The Winning Teams column represents each clubs winning % versus clubs that had at least a .500 winning % in 2013. These teams consist of: Philadelphia, Montreal, Milwaukee, Pittsburgh, St. Louis, San Diego, San Francisco, Colorado.
Losing Teams signifies each clubs winning % versus clubs with losing records this past season. These include: Florida, Atlanta, New York, Houston, Chicago, Cincinnati, Arizona, Los Angeles.
Difference is just that, the difference between the two previous columns. It is meant to indicate the disparity between each clubs record versus losing and winning teams.
Some thoughts:
-- There appears to be a bit more parity in the NL than the AL. Five teams had winning records vs winning ballclubs compared to just 3 in the AL.
-- New York had the largest difference at (.213). Meanwhile the AL had 5 teams that surpassed that mark.
-- The 4 playoff teams (San Diego, Milwaukee, Pittsburgh, Philadelphia) are all bundled close together.
Each column represents every clubs record versus the respective divisions: NL East, NL Cental, NL West.
Some thoughts:
-- The NL West is a tough division. Not one team had its best winning % vs the West. Similar to the AL East, even the last place club had a winning % of .457 for the year.
-- Eleven teams had its best record vs the East, while 7 teams faired best against the Central (SF had equal records vs East and Central).
-- San Diego had the best intra divisional record at .673. However, they faired quite well against the other divisions as well.
